Female Founders

In doing research about systemic change and how we can support new types of leadership, I have learned a vast amount from Arlan Hamilton, Lolita Taub, and Kate Brodock, amongst others.

Below are some statistics of why we need to champion BIPOC women founders.

I’ve begun taking courses, spearheading pitch events and panels, and investing my own money in BIPOC and women founders.

  • EXCELLENT FISCAL PERFORMANCE

Huge financial returns come from non-homogenous teams.

Executive teams with women outperform all-male teams by 21%.  Ethnically diverse teams outperform peers by 33% (McKinsey and Company, 2018).

  • WHITE SUPREMACY AND PATRIARCHY DEFINE WHO GETS FUNDED

    Only 2.2% of VC backed companies have a female founder (Fortune, 2021).

    Less than 1% of VC funding goes to Black founders (all genders) (Transparent Collective, 2019).

  • OUTPERFORM IN HIRING WOMEN

    2.5x more women are hired when a company has at least 1 female founder (Kauffman Fellows, 2019)

    6x more women are hired when a company has a female founder and a female executive (Kauffman Fellows, 2019)
